Children shoot
Children are the hands by which we take hold of heaven.
As a family photographer in Essex one of my favourite sessions is capturing photos of siblings and children. I especially love capturing photos out on location with children being more natural.
These sessions are about capturing children at play in a favourite place, so they are on location and generally use natural light. The shoot might take place at a park, on a beach or etc. I really encourage parent to think outside the box – the more unconventional the location, the better! I love interesting alleys, doors with peeling paint and other interesting places and textures. If you have a specific theme in mind, let me know so we can take a few props along and really have some fun.
But many families love the simplicity of studio photos with can take place in my home studio, also. These shoots are light-hearted and fun, with a bit of gentle direction. Each session is different, with the unique dynamic that flows naturally between you and your family. Some children like to sing, make silly noises, tell jokes, dance, jump around, clap hand, play peekaboo and generally have a fun time, while others might just want to sit and talk quietly or play with toys whilst my camera discreetly captures them.
Newborn Shoot
Teeny Tiniest – Treasuring the early days
These sessions something that I absolutely love to capture. I love newborn’s little tummies, wispy hair and tiny toes and fingers. The best time to do these photographs is when your baby is 7 – 14 days old. This is because they are still quite ‘pliable’, they generally sleep a lot and colic and baby acne have not yet set in.
These sessions are generally a little longer as we have to work at your newborn’s pace. They average between 2 – 4 hours. We need to allow time for feeding, changing and cuddling. New parents can also be tired and a bit sore so I don’t want to rush things. These are lovely, gentle sessions and really special shoots which I highly encourage.
These sessions should be booked as early, as possible after your 20 weeks scan which will ensure your booking and assist me in managing the diary. If however your baby is die fairly soon or already born feel free to contact me as I may be able to fit you in.
Maternity Shoot
Celebrating beautiful belies and your first connection with your child.
A maternity shoot is about celebrating the miracle of sharing your body with your baby and capturing the beauty of your belly. The best time is between 32 and 36 weeks, although the shoot can be done any stage you choose.
You can come to the shoot with your partner, with your child or children, or you can bring girlfriend or your mum – I really don’t mind who you bring, so long as you feel confident and comfortable with them.
We can also discuss the type of shots you’d like. I have plenty of fabrics and ideas to help create the look you want – you can show as little or as much of your bump as you like and please don’t worry about stretch marks or the odd blemish, as these can always be airbrushed out in the post-production process.
Family shoot
You are born into your family and your family is born into you.
I believe in true family values and celebrating them by capturing milestones and creating something unique for family homes. My family sessions have often been described as a little adventure. Using beautiful outdoor settings that a familiar and local to you, I like to take families on a walk and achieve very natural, relaxed and playful family photographs. Each session is fully bespoke and depends entirely on your families personality, what you enjoy doing together and where you most like to be. Sessions can take place in your favourite outdoor setting or private garden. I can also recommend a variety of beautiful, quiet and seasonal locations that are local.
Christmas mini shoot
Christmas themed photography sessions capturing magical memories.
WHAT EXACTLY IS A MINI SESSION AND WHAT ARE IT’S LIMITATIONS?
Holiday sessions are an opportunity for families to spend time together while I’m creating beautiful images of them, capturing the love and real moments!
Mini sessions typically last 30 minutes.A mini session is a great and fun way to get a few photos of your baby, child or children.
They are sessions scheduled back to back on a predetermined date, with very little wiggle room in the schedule.
There are some cases where a full session makes more sense for a particular family. To try to avoid frustration or disappointment here they are:
1. If you have a large family. Mini sessions are super short. It’s important to be realistic about what we are able to capture in that time. If you have 3, 4 or 5 children, there will not be enough time for sibling, family and individual child portraits.
2. If your child is very shy and takes some time to warm up. Or conversely, if your child is in a wild child phase (they all go through it!), 30 minutes may not be enough time to coax him or her into the portrait you’re looking for. A full session would give your child time to warm up, or warm down – whichever the case may be
3. If you are looking for a variety of sets, outfit changes and “looks.” Again, with only 20 -30 minutes, there isn’t a lot of time for outfit changes. If that is what you are looking for, contact us about a full session and we can plan it together.
4. If you won’t be happy with letting the child (and child’s mood!) affect the style of photos we are able to capture. There is no accounting for mood of a child on the day of the mini session. Keep in mind he or she may be tired and not super cooperative. We’ve never not been able to fill a gallery, but if there is a very specific shot you’re looking for, it just makes sense to book a longer session where we have the luxury of time to get that shot for you.
I hope this didn’t scare you because really, mini sessions can be and are mostly all about FUN!
